Portfolio Snapshot

I put this blog together as a way to showcase some of the things I've worked on over the last couple of years. While this is by no means a comprehensive look at my work, I hope it will give you an idea of my capabilities.

Brand development, website and social media campaign

With an itch to work on a new and different project, I took on a freelance job with the help of a designer and programmer to develop a brand, website and social media campaign for Caribbean Land Realty (CLR). CLR consists of a group of investors and real estate consultants developing and selling residential, land and commercial properties in Honduras, working from both Honduras and locally in Utah.
My designer colleague on the project and I worked together to create a look and feel that represented what CLR is selling - a lifestyle. While the website content mainly consists of listings, I was able to use my emotions and creativity to write about a destination where people would want to visit and invest in.

Agency PR

Working in the PR department, I have the opportunity to do PR for the agency. This includes writing and distributing press releases and articles that have been featured in Utah CEO, the Enterprise, and online in UB Daily's newsletter, Utah Pulse, Utah Policy and Omniture's CMO.com among others.

Market Research

Mountain View Corridor (MVC): For the MVC project, a local freeway project, I was on the research team to conduct quantitative and qualitative research in order to develop a well-executed strategic communication plan for the construction phase of the project.
  • Key-influencer interviews (media, local governments, opinion leaders, transportation industry)
  • Stakeholder contact analysis (residents, local governments, businesses)
  • Focus groups (pulled residents from the project areas)
  • Phone survey (surveyed residents in project areas)
This research enabled the team to create communication goals, strategies and tactics; to ensure the public is kept informed throughout the construction process.

I also work to complete primary and secondary research for new business proposals.

Party Planner

Ok, maybe I am not a party planner, but the go-to person for agency events I am. An eye for all things classy, attention to detail, a passion for spreadsheets and checklists and the goal of a perfectly executed event make me an excellent event planner. While the event comes together seamlessly with the help of everyone on the team, one detail does not go untouched under my supervision and coordination.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Engineering Conference is an annual event that UDOT puts on. Engineers and consultants from around the state gather together for three days attending presentations on numerous relevant topics, networking and also attend the "trade show" aspect of the conference. Consultants such as ourselves (PPBH) set up booths at the South Towne Expo Center, enticing UDOT employees and other consultants to check out what we are all about. Many times at trade shows you will see a couple of employees hanging out behind a table, handing out pens and looking bored. PPBH has taken this opportunity to the next level by hosting an interactive activity at our booth. While this idea has spread like wildfire, we still do it best.

Last year we hosted a very successful PPBH Pinewood Grand Prix:

This year we went with the same theme, but the race track was in the main foyer of the event center and the PPBH booth served as a VIP lounge/pit stop:

With a PPBH partner on the Economic Development Corporation of Utah's (EDCU) board, the agency participated in the EDCU's annual spring golf tournament. Myself and another co-worker worked the tournament booth and engaged the golfers in an activity at our hole.

We gave bags of tees to all golfers that tee'd off at our hole. As a competition, golfers participated in the "Impaired Long-Drive Challenge," tee'ing off with a pair of impaired goggles on. The activity was such a hit, and I apparently did such a great job putting it on that I was invited to golf with executives from another company weeks later, which I had to kindly decline.

Opinion Editorials

In an effort to get the word out about insurance companies and their (shady) practices when filling prescriptions, I worked with Pfizer and local doctors to write opinion editorial pieces. Interviews, drafts and working with local editors, we were able to place a few of these pieces.

CommuterLink Traffic Dashboard

In the Summer of 2010 I was appointed as the CommuterLink Traffic Dashboard PR manager. The dashboard had existed at this time with about 35 users but was undergoing a major makeover to improve the functionality and add new features.

I have spent the last seven months spreading the word about the dashboard to targeted local businesses, organizations and state construction projects.
PR efforts:
  • UDOT has tweeted about the Dashboard and many followers have requested the application for their website with the tweet content and schedule I have provided them.
  • Demo site (see below)
  • Partnership with UDOT construction projects
  • News release being distributed the end of November 2011 (sample to be posted).
  • Exposure at targeted events: IAP2 training event and the 2010 UDOT Engineering Conference.
Results:
28 presentations have been given to business and organizations across the Wasatch Front. More than double that have requested the dashboard to put on their business' homepage.
